Fabric & Wallpaper Care
Cleaning codes tell you what a fabric can handle before you reach for a cleaner. Every Callista Home fabric listing includes its code — here's what they mean, plus general care for fabric and wallpaper.
| Code | What it means |
|---|---|
| W | Water-based cleaner only — Use a water-based upholstery cleaner or mild soap and water. |
| S | Solvent-based cleaner only — Use a water-free solvent cleaner. Do not use water, which may cause staining or shrinkage. |
| WS | Water or solvent-based cleaner — Either a water-based or solvent-based cleaner is safe to use. |
| X | Vacuum only — Clean by vacuuming or light brushing only — no liquid cleaners of any kind. Professional cleaning recommended for stains. |
Everyday fabric care
- Vacuum upholstery regularly with a soft brush attachment.
- Blot spills immediately — never rub — with a clean, dry cloth.
- Keep fabric out of direct, prolonged sunlight to reduce fading.
- Rotate and flip cushions periodically for even wear.
- For anything beyond a light spot clean, use a professional upholstery cleaner familiar with the fabric's cleaning code.
Wallpaper care
- Check your product listing for whether a paper is wipeable — grasscloth and textured papers generally are not.
- Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth or vacuum brush attachment.
- Wipeable papers can be cleaned with a barely damp cloth — never soak the surface.
- Avoid abrasive sponges or solvent-based cleaners on any wallpaper.
- We recommend professional installation, particularly for pattern-matched and grasscloth papers.
Care needs vary by fiber content and construction — always spot test any cleaner in an inconspicuous area first. If you're ever unsure, reach out before treating a stain; we're happy to advise based on the specific fabric or paper.
